We've tried the scissors guillotine-like things, but they really don't do a very good job. Enter one of the most elegant cool tools we've seen in a while: the Rösle Egg Topper.

It works on a simple principle of vibration, combined with a slightly sharp edge.  Here’s how it works:  You position the Egg Topper resting on the top of the egg (it helps if you have the egg in a carton or something else that will hold it steady--you’ll need both your hands).  Pull up on the spring-loaded handle while holding the lower part against the egg, and let the handle drop.  The vibration causes the sharp edge in the dome to cut the shell perfectly.  Then, using your hand or a knife, lift the top of the egg off.  It’s almost like magic, and produces a beautiful result!
