Springtime is here in North America, and various celebrations: Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and Father’s Day are upcoming, each in its way marking the beginning of Summer.
Summer is the season for gathering outdoors, to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, longer days, warm nights, and especially to cook and dine with friends and family! In this Year of The Pandemic, please use your best judgment and be respectful of everyone else!
When it comes to outdoor cooking, whether you call it grilling, BBQing, or cooking over live fire, the important thing is to have the right tools to elevate your technique and make cooking easier! So when we discover a Cool Tool that will contribute to your enjoyment, we want you to know about it! And we definitely have found a new Cool Tool for ‘Outdoor Cooking’: the Connectit™ BBQ Tool Kit from Proud Grill! This is, quite plainly, one of the best combinations of design and functionality we’ve seen in a very long time! Very definitely a Cool Tool!
To begin, it’s just 2 simply designed - but very elegant - tools: a spatula and a sharp-tined fork. These two pieces of beautiful brushed high-quality stainless steel (16”/40.6cm long) curve gently in the same parallel profile: 1¼”/3.18cm wide at the handle end, tapering to 2¼”/5.7cm at the ‘working end”. These pieces may be used separately, as functionally intended.
BUT the key detail - the beautiful design and functional element that converts the 2 pieces of the Connectit™ BBQ Tool Kit from 2 tools into 4 - is the rare-earth magnet handles on each piece! These very strong magnets are underneath a rubber outer layer, following the curve of the handle end. When the spatula is on top of the 2 pieces, the Connectit can be stored safely, with the spatula covering the sharp tines of the fork.
When the 2 pieces are detached from each other and the curves are aligned in opposing directions on top of the rudder-like guide in the spatula, the magnets click the 2 pieces together to create the ‘tongs’ function to turn your food.
And after you’ve turned your food on the grill and it’s time to serve, simply reverse the 2 pieces of the Connectit™and, with the fork on top, align the guide into the groove and create the serving piece you need to go from the grill to your platter or plate.
If you’re not storing the Connectit™ flat in a drawer, the magnets will ‘hang’ the 2 pieces from your Grill. Or, if your grill won’t hold these magnets, then the folks at Proud Grill have thoughtfully included a short strip of stainless steel - with an adhesive backing - to attach to your grill and hold the 2 pieces of the Connectit™.
There is one major caveat about the Connectit: the magnets cannot be submerged in water, so these tools are not dishwasher safe.
But if you can deal with that (it’s easy to do, and worth the effort to enjoy the beauty and benefits of these tools!), then this is truly one of the coolest Cool Tools we’ve seen! You need one set for you, and more as gifts for the Grilling people you know and love!
