Norpro Krona Multi Pot-12 Cup
We all have a variety of pots & pans, and if they’re heavy enough and well-made, then they are usually pretty effective for the cooking jobs we assign to them. But every once in awhile, a new design comes along that is both clever and practical...and just makes cooking a little easier. The Multi Pot is one of those.
The Multi Pot features a tall shape, with both US and metric markings on the inside, which is useful for heating soup, or cooking pasta or vegetables, because the added depth provides a better liquid bath for your ingredients. And the lid has three options: sealed to hold the steam in, vented with 3mm (~1/8”) holes, and vented with 6mm (~1/4”) holes. This adds versatility in both cooking, to release or hold in the steam as you choose, and especially in draining: eliminating the need to wash an extra colander. And the handy pour spout on the Multi Pot actually works without dribbling (a trait we find annoying in so many things equipped with a pour spout!)
Now let’s talk about the geeky stuff: it has a 3-ply encapsulated base, with a layer of aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel. The aluminum is a great heat conductor, while the stainless steel, which heats up slower, transfers that heat evenly to the food. The result is faster cooking without hot or cold spots. The pot is made from 18/10 stainless steel (see the information about steel at left), which means it’s got great durability.
We used the Multi Pot most recently to make a carrot soup for which we infused chicken broth with ginger, chipotle, and kafir lime leaves (see the recipe this week in a Colbrook Kitchen Newsletter near you!). The Multi Pot worked perfectly for the infusion, because we had maximum broth-to-ingredient contact, we were able to pour the soup through the strainer lid into the blender, leaving the infusing ingredients behind. As we all know, the most important ingredient in any soup is the broth, and the Multi-Pot makes that easy and delicious! After we returned the soup to the pot to reheat, we poured it perfectly into soup bowls for serving, with no unsightly drips. This is truly a Cool Tool!
