Why It's Cool: Curved shape follows the contours of the cob to remove the corn kernals easily and uniformly

So back to the corn soup (yes, I’m a little obsessed with it, but it’s sooo good!) The other time-consuming part of corn soup is stripping the kernels off the cob. It’s the same time-consuming activity to make corn salad, or corn salsa...all the wonderful gifts of summer.

I’ve tried all sorts of things to get the kernels of the corn cob, from plain knives (too straight for the cob) to corn tools that go down all sides of the corn at once (too awkward) to ones that catch the corn as they go (don’t really cut the kernels off all that well). But they’ve all had their drawbacks. A corn stripper can make a tedious job much easier, but only if it’s really well-designed and well-made. We found one that meets those criteria.

The Norpro GripEZ Corn Cutter is designed like a conventional vegetable peeler: it has a comfortable handle with side grips, a rounded head that follows the curve of the cob, and a 1.25” wide cutter with fine and very effective teeth to take off the corn, with a second ring of metal that prevents you from gouging into the cob.

When we tested it, we found it to be very effective, and it saved us a lot of time and effort. A good corn stripper is not only a Cool Tool, but is a real boon to enjoying the bounty of summer corn.
