Brainstream BeepEgg
One of our favorite easy, healthy breakfasts is a soft boiled egg--the perfect protein, all within its own container. But … getting the timing right has always been a challenge: often the egg was undercooked, or overcooked, and neither was a satisfactory result. We’ve tried timers, but the ‘correct’ time varies based on the size of the pot, or the age, size, temperature, or number of eggs. And we’ve tried putting the eggs in a pot of cold water and cooking until the water comes to a boil - low, full, rolling - , but that produced very uneven results, and besides who wants to watch the pot constantly to see when the water boils. Not how you want to spend your pre-breakfast time!
It seems that a new German company has solved this problem, and we’ve been enjoying PERFECT soft boiled eggs ever since we returned from the International Housewares Show in March. Now we want to share this great discovery with you!
The BeepEgg from Brainstream is an egg-shaped device that is much more than a typical timer; its results are more precise because they are temperature-based. You store the BeepEgg with your real eggs, (so it’s at the same temperature as your eggs). When you’re ready to boil your eggs, just put the BeepEgg in the pot with the eggs and turn on the heat; the temperature you cook the eggs at is immaterial, as is the number of eggs you're cooking and the size of the pot you’re cooking them in.
What happens next is pure genius: when your eggs reach a perfect soft boil stage, the BeepEgg plays one tune; when the eggs reach medium boil stage, the BeepEgg plays a different tune; and when the eggs are hard boiled, the BeepEgg plays a third tune. Which means that you can prepare the rest of your breakfast and pay no attention to the eggs until the BeepEgg plays the tune for your desired degree of doneness! And who doesn’t want to be serenaded in the morning?!
