Cool Tip: Piping Bag Magic!
- Jun 23, 2015
I have a love/hate relationship with piping bags ...I love the results, but I get frustrated by the process.
First there’s filling the bag. No matter how tall the glass I put the bag in to fill it, it’s never tall enough, and the piping bag keeps flopping over and spilling out the contents on the counter.
Then I don’t always get my twist tight enough, so the contents of the bag will go not only down through the decorative tip, the way I want it to, but it will also sneak its way up the bag and out the top end, again losing content on the counter, making a mess, and providing less of whatever it is I’m making at the time.
My third frustration is just cleaning the piping bag. Sure you can use the disposable ones, but that always seems like a waste and not very green.
Well, we’ve solved 2 of my 3 issues, and here are our Cool Tips for using your piping bag:
1. There are single purpose piping bag stands, but they take up a lot of room in your cabinets and … they are single purpose. So we thought there must be something in the kitchen that we can use to support the piping bag and that doesn’t take up a lot of room. While looking around the kitchen, we saw one of our favorite products: the Silicone Lids form Charles Viancin. As if there aren’t enough reasons to love these products - beautiful, functional, green (ends the use of disposable saran wrap for most uses), and fun - now there is one more: roll it in a cone, stick it in a highball glass, and voila… you have a piping bag holder that works great and doesn’t take up a lot of room in your drawers. If you already have some Viancin lids, rejoice and try this with the medium or large size. If you don’t yet own these, then this is another great reason to get them!
