Cool Tip: The Picnic Kit

Picnic

We recently traveled to France, with a picnic on the agenda. And we have a full summer upcoming of weekly concerts in the park! This caused us to think through our picnic kit: what are the essential tools that you need to assure a seamless, enjoyable al fresco event? So we developed a checklist:

  • small cutting board(s)
  • sharp knife - or knives, for both sausages and cheese
  • spreader - for pates, dips, or soft cheeses
  • corkscrew - choose a small one from your drawer
  • wine glasses - non-breakable govino, of course!
  • and beautiful MADHOUSE plates and cutlery

For local park or beach settings, include a small table and holders to keep your wine and wine glasses off the ground: out of the dirt and reasonably cool, for awhile!

For more specific elegance, include your own small tablecloth and napkins, and a tea towel for easy cleanup. And if you’re traveling by foot or car, then put it all neatly into a convenient tote bag that will hold all your kit, and maybe a bottle or 2 of wine and water.

One of our great customers offered the following additional tip for air travel: roll all the basic tools into the tablecloth, and insert the ends of the roll into the govino glasses - overall length, approximately 10”/25cm. Then pack all this in your checked luggage, to minimize space while assuring that you have all the basics you need when you get where you’re going!

Have a great picnic season!
