Though the days of putting on gloves to go into town is primarily a practice of a bygone era, putting on gloves to go into the garden is a very good idea.
There are lots of gloves that protect your hands and your fingertips (and nails), but I always used to get rashes on my arms from diving into the zucchini and cucumber plants because of the little stickers on the leaves and stems.
A few years ago I bought what were labeled as horse birthing gloves: long rubber gloves that came up over my elbows and provided great protection from rough plants. When I went to replace them, I couldn’t find birthing gloves, but I did find “mucking gloves”, a bad name for a great product. And now I don’t dive into a plant without them. We don’t sell them, but you can find them online, and they will protect you from scratchy plants.
